Boston, MA ~ Southwest TURN piggy-backed its regional meeting on the to follow the national TURN meeting with a topic focus that also dovetailed the national agenda.
Whereas the national meeting included a broad view of of Ford Foundation's funding priority of "Rethinking Time”, the regional meeting provided an opportunity to look at specific strategies for restructuring the school day and school year.
The focal point of the regional meeting was a presentation and conversation with Roy Chan, Manager of Effective Practices, of the National Center on Time & Learning.
Southwest TURN committed to look at the issue of time issue as part of its successful grant applications to the Rose Community Foundation and the Ford Foundation.
The balance of the SW TURN meeting was devoted to continuing work on their "Better Way" plan that aims to define value-added measures that would be acceptable (i.e. reliable and valid) as a part of teacher appraisal and evaluation.
